Hide Unwanted Modules
Hiding Unused Modules in AX
Navigate from any screen to File > View > Modules. From there, a full list of all modules in AX will open up and you will see most, if not all, checked.
To change how you see modules, navigate to File > View > Modules from any screen in AX. |
It is pretty easy to deselect modules that you no longer want to see. |
Before:
My list of modules. Please note that Payroll, Call center, Retail, and Service management are all listed. |
After:
My list of modules, minus the four I deselected (Payroll, Call center, Retail, and Service management). |
As you can see, the modules that I deselected are now absent from my list of modules (Payroll, Call center, Retail, and Service management).
Favorites and Hiding Modules
One thing to take note of - if you have previously added something to your Favorites list and have since removed the module from your view, AX will look for the next available place where the favorite might be located. For example, if I am looking for All customers and I have removed the Call center and Sales and marketing modules from my AX view, it will open the All customers list from the Accounts receivable module - regardless of where I set my favorite from. If I remove all three modules, it will still open the All customers list page, but will not show a valid location in my breadcrumb bar.
![]() |
It's like the module never existed! |
Conclusion
You can remove as many modules as you want from your view. Just take care not to remove anything you use on a regular basis. If your job changes and you find that you need to add modules back, it is just as easy as navigating to File > View > Modules and reselecting the modules you have previously deselected.

Speed Up Microsoft Dynamics AX
A Technical Assessment Can Resolve Performance Issues and Keep your Systems Running at Optimal Speed
The health of your ERP is closely tied to the health of your business. So, keeping your ERP healthy is vital. But at some time, nearly all companies experience issues with the performance of their ERP. Remote users complain about forms loading slowly. Backups take hours to complete. Queries or processes seem to run slower than they should.
A typical ERP installation include dozens of interfaces spanning your entire IT environment. Services include applications, servers, databases, operating systems, networks, storage arrays, management tools, and backup software. Sub-optimal performance in any one of these nodes can contribute to slowdowns or failures of processes managed by your ERP. With such a complex system, it can be difficult to pinpoint where the issue is—or if there’s even a real issue at all.
Western Computer can help you identify and correct potential problems with Microsoft Dynamics AX—often before they become an issue. Our Technical Assessment analyzes your Dynamics AX deploy
Is your system running at optimal speed?
ment from end to end, to ensure that every piece of your system is configured for optimal performance. The Technical Assessment not only helps resolve existing issues with latency, end-user performance, and data transfer; it establishes performance benchmarks that play a crucial role in resolving future issues.
The Technical Assessment comprises three phases: collecting data, analyzing data, and presenting our findings. We rely on performance monitoring tools, including Microsoft admin tools, event logs, and third-party utilities, such as the Performance analyzer for Microsoft Dynamics (DynamicsPerf) and PAL (Performance Analysis of Logs). Using these tools, our technicians review your AX configuration, application server, SQL Server performance and database configuration, storage performance and settings, network bandwidth, operating system settings, and other critical aspects of your environment.
In the light version of the assessment, we check all these settings against established norms and best practices to identify anomalies that may be impacting performance. In the full version of the assessment, we install performance counters that monitor system activity for up to 30 days, to spot trends and variations in performance that might not be apparent in a simple snapshot.
Based on the results, our technicians prepare a Technical Finding Report, which identifies remediation actions/plans and provides recommendations to improve performance. Finally, our team conducts knowledge transfer to your internal IT team in case further explanation is necessary.
Because it establishes detailed benchmarks, we recommend the Technical Assessment to all companies using Dynamics AX—even if you’re not experiencing issues. As you add users, deploy new modules and customizations, tweak your AX configuration, or grow your database, these benchmarks can help you maintain performance or quickly identify the source of sudden failures.
If you’ve experienced issues with your ERP performance—or want to proactively ensure the health of your system—contact us to learn more about the Technical Assessment for Dynamics AX.

Life Sciences Organizations Succeed Under Pressure with Digital Transformation
Pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device and other life sciences companies are under increasing pressure to succeed in a highly competitive and regulated marketplace. There is no room for error, especially when delivering life-changing products to customers. An integrated business platform for ERP, CRM and BI can optimize operations, support all phases of growth and deliver the very data needed to succeed.
Life sciences organizations require more control over processes and data than what many standard enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems can support. In our ebook, “6 Ways to Thrive in a Digital Future,” we highlight how a life sciences digital transformation provides regulated companies with a strong foundation for growth.
In this ebook, we explore six ways early-stage companies and high growth companies will benefit from a digital transformation, including:
- Process automation: Manual processes are a time-consuming distraction from other more profit-producing tasks. Modern management solutions offer workflows, data integration and other automation that streamline and add consistency to common processes.
- Agility: Life science companies undergo big changes after product approval. Be prepared to work efficiently with global resources and remote teams with integrated, centralized information across operations.
- Compliance management: A digital platform provides a single source of information across operations and the product lifecycle. Track testing, certification and product approvals; maintain documentation from cradle to grave; and, identify serial and lot numbers by component and finished products.
- Business intelligence: A robust management system will provide built-in business intelligence and reporting features that highlight performance, operational outcomes, research and development costs and other key metrics that support data-driven decisions.
- Strong supply chain: Strong traceability is essential for audits and, more importantly, recalls. A digital management system supports regulatory compliance and provides serial and lot traceability throughout the entire supply chain, including at the customer site.
- Lower costs: Startups or growing companies need to focus on life-saving products, not staffing an IT department. A cloud-based management system provides a lower cost of ownership and supports best practices for a growing business. A reputable cloud-partner, with industry knowledge, will provide an environment that prevents tampering with electronic systems and results.
Deploy the technology that will support your growing business in a fast-paced, competitive marketplace. Download our Life Sciences Digital Transformation eBook and contact Merit Solutions for more information about MAXLife365, a comprehensive ERP solution that is extensible and scalable, validation ready, and can be rapidly deployed at the fraction of the price of other specialty systems.

AX for Retail – How to clear a stuck transaction in the MPOS cart
There have been a few instances where MPOS crashes while processing a transaction or the RTS times out saving a customer order. In normal circumstances, this transaction persists in the cart when you log into MPOS again so that you can complete the transaction. But it is possible that you may run into an instance where a split tender was performed with a credit card showing processed while the transaction failed to save processing the cash tender as the RTS call timed out. AX is showing this order successfully invoiced, but POS still thinks it needs a payment. Thus the transaction will not allow you to accept a payment nor void the payment/transaction and it is stuck!
If you are simply looking to remove this recalled transaction from the MPOS cart, follow the steps below:
1. Close MPOS
2. Go to the file location (C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Dynamics.Retail.Pos_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DOMStore\X2XSTARI\microsoft.dynamics.retail[1]
3. In the Explorer window click View >> Options >> Change folder and search option.
a. Enable the Show hidden files, folders and drives
b. Disable the Hide protected operation system files
4. Edit the microsoft.dynamics.retail[1] file in NotePad or another editor
5. Search the text file for CART to locate the start of the string <item name=”CART” value =
6. To resolve this issue, you can simply update the text file to remove the transaction details of the CART. What I did was copy the value of an empty cart such as the one below over the value of a cart with an item.
<item name=”CART” value=”{"CartLines":[],"Id":"","ShippingAddress":null}” ltime=”2136110528″ htime=”30567907″ />
Spaces were only added in the text of the screenshot below to help pinpoint the CART string value.
(Click picture to enlarge)
7. Once you have this updated, save the file.
8. Log into MPOS and the cart should be empty again.
Important Note:
You will also want to review the transaction in the RETAILTRANSACTIONTABLE and other related tables in the event that this transaction was partially written. You would want to verify the values in the tables to avoid any Retail statement posting issues or orphaned posted records.
Top 5 Trends in CPM and BI for 2017
In this article, we’ll discuss the top 5 trends in corporate performance management in 2017, with a focus on features and functionalities as the marketplace continues to evolve.
Here we are at the beginning of the year again, and it’s time to get into the work of realizing our goals. All over the internet, there seems to be a not-quite-but-close-to consensus that 2016 was a terrible year, perhaps more in terms of pop culture, a viral social media idea. No matter your perception of how the business realm fared last year, 2017 is a chance to do better, to upgrade work processes for better outcomes because of collaboration. As a toast to that, this article will explore the trends you can anticipate for Business Intelligence (BI) and Corporate Performance Management (CPM).
I’m sure this won’t come as a surprise to anyone reading this: cloud will continue to reign as the current and future king of BI/CPM. The CPM space continues to see cloud technologies growing in popularity. More CPM third party vendors will make the leap to true, multi-tenant public cloud platforms not just because it is popular with consumers, but also because it is a good move for corporations – from the business end user to the executive team. Big picture: it works in the customer’s favor because there weren’t many options hitherto. Competition between more vendors will deliver better products and lower prices.
Additionally, as both ERP and CPM vendors ascend to the cloud, your processes will improve, particularly when it comes to consolidating all of your data from disparate sources. Thanks to this shift in solution management technology, independent software vendors (ISVs) will be crafting new and powerful application program interfaces (APIs) to simplify integration configuration. Dynamic, robust integrations are important to moving your information from ERP systems and other data sources into your CPM tools, which will save you time and money in addition to reducing the risks involved with bad, manual integrations. In general, an increasing number of folks are moving from either weak, built-in ERP reporting and budgeting features and/or manual spreadsheet models to modern CPM tools for a best-in-breed toolbox. This shift means automated processes, which will save you time and resources, while delivering richer insight.
Let’s zoom out – as people make the move to web-based CPM, there’s a natural trend of self-service analytics expansion for teamwork across the organization. The internet as an end-user platform makes analyses more accessible, so organizations have the ability to expand their user base of reporting and dashboards to more and more of their information workers – not only due to accessibility, but also because of the growing perspective that better data in the hands of more staff results in quicker, smarter decision-making. Because CPM usage is expanding, more vendors are adding functionality for advanced report viewing, analysis with commentary, and report alerts. The cost of end user licensing will also go down, so more users get involved without breaking the bank.
