Which to attend: AXUG or Ignite?

As you may recall, back in January Microsoft announced that the long-running Convergence event would no longer be held in any capacity. Instead, the content would be split by two new events: Envision and Ignite. In our breakdown of which event you should attend there was a pretty clear division between Envision and Ignite. Envision was styled after TED conferences with discussions around visionary content whereas Ignite is billed as a highly technical conference with a wide variety of immersive learning experiences. While both offered very different, valuable experiences it still begged the question, where did AXUG Summit fit into this picture? Well, now we know! Initial reports suggested that the functional content once found at Convergence would end up at Ignite. However, with the recent publication of the Ignite session catalog we now know that is not the case. Out of the 470+ sessions offered at Ignite, as of this posting there are only 9 about Dynamics AX. The good news is that the functional content is not going away. It’s just being moved to AXUG summit. Janet Lampert, President and COO of Dynamics Communities Inc, recently published a blog announcing an expanded partnership with Microsoft. While Microsoft had always been a part of Summit, there will now be an additional day added to the event to allow for Microsoft-led sessions.   To recap: while we strongly recommend spending your travel budget to head to Tampa, Ignite is still a reasonable choice for IT professionals looking to learn more about the entire Microsoft family. AXUG Summit 2016 When & Where: October 11-14, 2016 | Tampa, FL Who: All Dynamics AX users Go if…. You want to learn about particular features or functions in Dynamics AX You enjoy networking with other Dynamics AX users You want to find out more about the Dynamics AX roadmap You are day-to-day user of Dynamics AX and don’t need to get into the technical aspects of the solution Stay home if… Actually, we can’t think of a reason to stay home! Our take: Although Microsoft has always been involved in Summit, this year they have announced a much more active, visible role in the event. And while initial reports suggested that the functional content once found at Convergence would end up at Ignite, it seems like Microsoft has decided to put those resources towards AXUG instead. Think AXUG is right for you? REGISTER HERE Microsoft Ignite When & Where: September 26-30, 2016 | Atlanta, GA Who: “IT Professionals” Go if…. You are interested in learning more about a wide variety of Microsoft products You’re looking for a hands-on experience You’d like to prep for Microsoft certification exams You’re interested in seeing lots of demos and ‘how-tos’ straight from the source Stay home if… You’re looking for in-depth Dynamics AX only content You’re not an everyday user of Microsoft technology Big crowds aren’t your thing Our take: This event is for folks who want to be hands-on and in the nitty gritty of everything Microsoft has to offer--not just the Dynamics family. Based on the session list , you may be better off attending if you are interested in learning about anything except Dynamics AX! However, if you think this is still the conference for you or someone on your team, you better act fast! At last report there were over 18,000 registered attendees and hotels within the Ignite block are all but sold out. Think Ignite is right for you? REGISTER HERE Sunrise Technologies will be at both events so make sure you stop by and say hello: Ignite Booth: TBD AXUG Summit Booth: 616
