Finding a qualified pool of candidates to fill vacancies can be difficult, especially when a position requires a unique set of skills. This problem is compounded by the issue that most recruiters do not have time do in depth searches for qualified candidates, even though those candidates often times already exist in their company today.
Using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 users can search existing employees or new applicants for a specific skill set. This allows the recruiter to quickly gather and screen applicants who have applied for open position now or in the past, or to find potential candidates from their existing pool of employees.
As a user in AX you can create a skill mapping profile. This allows you to define the skill set that you are looking for, and whether you want to include Workers, Applicants and/or Contacts. When looking at the screen shot below, notice that you can look for an individual with a particular certificate, skill or educational requirement. Furthermore, you can state if the criteria is optional, rank the importance of the criteria, or do a reverse search and search for people that don’t meet the criteria that you have listed. Want to find someone who has similar skills to another person or who most closely matches the competencies needed for a job? Want to quickly find people who might benefit from a Course? Use Retrieve profile to pull in the Certificate, Skill, and Education data from a selected Person, Job or Course as the basis for your search.
Once you have decided upon the skill mapping profile criteria and select the execute button, an infolog will appear and tell you how many individuals were found. You can view a report that will display the best matches at the top of the report.
Perhaps you want to do a quick search, and you really don’t want to create a skill mapping profile. You can go to the skills mapping form and quickly search for a person that meets your criteria.
As you can see, there are many different options for finding a person with a particular skills set.
Once the skill mapping query is run, you will be presented with a list of individuals that meet the criteria that you entered on the previous form. This is just another way to view a list of qualified workers, applicants or contacts.
Also, you can perform a skill gap analysis on an individual. For example, you may have an open position and you want to see if a particular employee has the skill set to fill that position. As you can see in the screen shot below, the desired target level for the position is compared to the actual level that the employee has. The gap percentage is then listed to the right. Also, target levels are always the darker color. The actual level is superimposed on the target level as a lighter, semitransparent shade of the same color so that you can see the actual skill level relative to the target skill level.
Lastly, you can do a skill profile analysis. This will give a visual representation of the person’s current skills in comparison to the target skill level. The target level for all skills is represented by the outermost ring on the skill wheel. If a person has the targeted skill level as their actual skill level, each ring in the segment will be filled in with color.
Also, the images created in the skill profile analysis and skill gap analysis can be copied to your clipboard to be used in presentations or other documents.
Until next time…
