Yes, you can export your reporting relationships to Visio. We have had a number of inquiries on how to export reporting structures/hierarchies to Visio. AX 2009 and previous versions had similar capabilities for exporting. The example below is using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 and Visio 2013. The same steps can be applied to Microsoft Dynamics AX R2 and older versions of Visio.
In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or R3, from the Position list page (example screenshot below) Click the ‘Export to Microsoft Excel’ button in the action pane (Ctrl-T).
Save the Excel file that has been exported.
Open Visio and create a New Visio sheet by selecting the category 'Business' and the type 'Organization Chart Wizard'. (Microsoft Visio 2013)
Choose the ‘Organization Chart Wizard’.
Select Create.
Choose to create from information already stored in a file or database and click Next.
Choose to create from an Excel file and click Next.
Choose to create from your recently created Excel file containing the hierarchy and click Next.
Set Name to ‘Position’ and Reports to ‘Reports to position’ and click Next.
Choose the fields to display on each node and click Next.
Choose the columns to appear as shape data fields and click Next.
You may choose to include a picture or network. Click Next.
Select to automatically break the organization and name the top level and click Finish.
As you can see you can quickly export the position hierarchy! Also, the hierarchy displays in a very easy to read format, and is ready to be used in presentations or other documents!
