Even More Reasons for the Cloud

For years experts have been telling everyone about the huge benefits of moving from a traditional, in-house ERP system to a cloud-based solution. Having business data available on-demand wherever and whenever employees need it means higher levels of productivity and greater efficiency. Off-loading IT infrastructure and internal resources to professionals who provide reliable services at a predictable cost. It may not be new, but now more than ever is a great time for an organization to strongly consider moving to a cloud-based ERP solution.

One of the most persuasive arguments for moving to the cloud is its ability to bring an organization’s data and workstreams to employees at any given time via multiple devices. For some global companies, however, there might have been some limitations on internet reliability when cloud computing started becoming available. Nowadays, mobile devices have spread and internet connectivity has broadened, so companies with employees located in less developed areas of the world will most likely have enough resources to participate in a cloud solution.

Once an argument against moving to the cloud, security is now considered by some to be a strength of off-site computing. Cloud-based solutions make their living off securing the sensitive data of large organizations and, quite simply, they are good at it. They have years of experience securing the data assets of Fortune 500 companies around the globe. Both physical and logical security are calling cards of today’s cloud providers.

While they will certainly provide on-site products as long as there is a market, ERP providers are putting their resources into developing cloud-based solutions. For example, Microsoft is investing more heavily in moving Dynamics AX to the cloud. Organizations looking to make the most of its ERP solution can ride the wave of Microsoft’s cloud-based innovations. The benefits of Microsoft Azure are exciting and worth a look for those who have passed it over in the past.

Perhaps the best and most practical reason to move to the cloud is that upper-level management may finally be ready to adopt the initiative. Cloud computing is no longer a foreign concept to decision-makers, and concerns about security and reliability may have subsided given the maturity of cloud-based solutions. Plenty of success stories can ease any lingering concerns. For all these reasons, now might be the right time to re-introduce a plan to move to the cloud.
