January 2013 Payroll Tax Table Updates for Microsoft Dynamics SL

Overview

You can download and import the modified tax tables or manually update your tax tables and deductions using the instructions included in each section listed under “Revisions Covered in this Document.” Also note the effective dates included in this section.

Besides the revisions covered in this document, the tax updates file includes all other current state and federal tables. Depending on your release of Microsoft Dynamics SL, you may be prompted to select the tables you want to import. You can import federal and state tables individually, depending on your specific needs.

Deductions must be attached to a work location and earnings type to calculate.

Revisions Covered in this Document:

  • Federal - Effective January 1, 2013
  • Colorado - Effective January 1, 2013
  • Connecticut - Effective January 1, 2013
  • Georgia - Effective January 1, 2013
  • Maryland - Effective January 1, 2013
  • New Mexico - Effective January 1, 2013
  • Oklahoma - Effective January 1, 2013
  • Vermont - Effective January 1, 2013

Important Notices

  • If the Federal tax has been imported, you must remove the tax tables for the Additional
    Medicare Tax deduction (FED9) manually. Make sure that you follow the procedures on page
    5 before you import the Federal 2013 tax tables.
  • If the Maryland tax has been updated using the manual instructions from the document
    “Payroll Tax Updates and Changes December 2012”, you must enter the Annual Minimum
    and Annual Maximum amounts on the Exemptions/Credits tab of Deduction Maintenance
    (02.290.00). Make sure that you follow the procedures on page 14 to properly set the
    amounts.
  • If the Oklahoma tax has been imported, you must select the Round Deduction Amount check
    box on the Deduction tab of Deduction Maintenance (02.290.00). Make sure that you follow
    the procedures on page 16 after you import the Oklahoma 2013 tax tables.
  • If the Colorado tax has been imported, you must select the Round Deduction Amount check
    box on the Deduction tab of Deduction Maintenance (02.290.00). Make sure that you follow
    the procedures on page 9 after you import the Colorado 2013 tax tables.
  • Deduction amounts must be rounded to the nearest whole dollar for Colorado, Maine, Missouri,
    Montana, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. The Round Deduction Amount check box on the
    Deduction tab of Deduction Maintenance (02.290.00) is not selected when taxes are imported in
    Load Payroll Tax Tables (02.560.00). You must manually select the Round Deduction Amount
    check box for the those state deductions.
  • The tax updates file, starting with the January 2013 tax updates, includes the Deduction Types
    (02.710.00) and the Payroll Tables (02.720.00) reports, generated from the Microsoft Dynamics
    SL demo database after the tax updates have been imported. Compare the 02710.pdf and
    02720.pdf report files to your Deduction Types (02.710.00) and Payroll Tables (02.720.00)
    reports to ensure your deductions and payroll tax tables are setup properly.
  • It is not always possible to precisely duplicate a state tax formula. Therefore, calculated tax
    results should be regarded as estimates only. We strongly recommend that you review all
